Have you ever heard the phrase, work smarter, not harder? At OYF, we don’t shy away from hard work, but that doesn’t mean we want to make our lives more complex. In fact, we love it when there’s an opportunity to get added and unexpected benefits from one of our workouts. Like, did you ever consider that stopping by a yoga class might be the thing that can help you with your clear up your skin?
But before we jump into the skin benefits of FAR Infrared classes, let’s back up. If you’ve been to one of our classes before or heard about them, you might know that they take place in infrared heated spaces. Knowing that, you might even have wondered, is this bad for my skin? If that thought has crossed your mind, we don’t blame you. In fact, we applaud you for taking care of your largest organ. We’ve seen what can happen to our skin under sunlight. Why would infrared heat any different? To break this down, let’s first consider what exactly far infrared is and then consider how collagen affects this whole process.
Different types of light affect our skin in different ways. The type of light the sun releases, known as Ultraviolet (UV) light, can lead to skin thickening, wrinkling, pigmentation, and dryness, as explained in this article about how Far-infrared Suppresses Skin Photoaging. As you may have gleamed from that article title, far infrared heat, the type of heat used in our studios, has quite a different effect.
When exposed to infrared light, your skin converts it to heat, as explained by Design Dermatoloty & Aesthetics. Used at the right distance and for the right amount of time, this can actually help heal our skin. Now, near infrared and far infrared, two different types of infrared light at different differences, have substantially different effects. Near infrared can be more risky if not used in the right doses. Far infrared, like we use in our studios, has not been found to have any harm on the skin. It can even reverse skin photo-aging!
Now, the second part of our inquiry – collagen. Studies suggest far infrared can increase collagen. But why should you want that? Well, collagen has a myriad of benefits for our skin. Collagen is responsible for providing structure and strength to your skin. It helps new cell growth, replaces dead skin, helps your blood clot, and even provides 30% of your body’s protein.
If you want to see how far infrared can help purify your skin, stop by a class at your local OYF studio.
